Swimming Explanation.

Our class has been learning how to write a good explanation. This week we were aloud to write an explanation on any subject. I choose swimming and this is my explanation . I hope you like it. 

Swimming.
Swimming is a type of sport that gives you strength and makes you fit. Swimming is featured at a  swimming pool. You can do as many laps as you would like . It is a very fun sport and you need a lot of energy. It can be for anyone . Swimming started in the 1st century. Swimming can be in lots of different competitions and is great for survival.

Strokes and laps.
There are four main strokes in swimming. There are freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly. The fastest stroke would be freestyle. Swimming started in the olympics in 1869. The very first strokes they decided to put into the olympics were freestyle and Breaststroke. Then in 1904 they added backstroke into the competition. Most pools are 25 metres which counts as one length but then some pools are 50 metres which counts as 2 lengths.

Equipment.
There's a few equipment you need for swimming. Firstly you will need togs. Togs are a waterproof suit the is made to go in the water.They are made out of lycra .  Girls wear either tog’s or a race suit . The race suit makes you go faster. Then men usually wear speedo shorts or long  race suit. Race suits have the top of the togs but then go down to shin length or all the way. They come in many different patterns and colours. Girls and Boys can both wear swim caps. Swim caps protect their hair from not getting wet. It also makes you go faster . It is also better to have shorter hair than longer hair because shorter hair makes you go faster because there is not as much weight.

Other Types of Swimming.
There are other types of swimming. You don’t just have to swim in competitions and not just in a pool. It is an amazing time to go swimming in the summer. You can go swimming at the beach and in lakes and rivers. In the ocean you can go surfing and bodyboarding and on the lake you can go biscuiting. Swimming is a great thing to do with your family.


Swimming is a good way to keep fit and cool in the Summer.
