This time last week I was getting ready to compete in the West Coast Rotary Speeches. I can remember my stomach dancing with butterflies as I was anxiously waiting for it to be 5:30pm. After school I started to get ready. I put on my best looking uniform. Did my hair nice and put on all of my badges. It was time. We were driving to the union. We went and sat at our table and people started coming around and talking to me about the process. During that time I found out what number I was going to be.I was seventh. We got dinner and dessert. Afterwards it was time. The six speeches before flied by. It was my time to shine. Then it came to prize giving. I came second out of nine contestants. I was so happy. If you ever get to experience Rotary Speech then give it your all!

ASB Netball.
On Monday our ASB Netball team competed in the finals. We had to travel up to Westport and be at school by 7:45. Our first game was against South West Port and we won . Then we had half an hour rest until our next game. We were playing Saint Mary's. It was tough at the start but then we were on fire and we won that game as weel. I was lucky enough to be Captain and lead the team. Since we won both games we became the champions of ASB Primary Netaball Challenge. Then South Westport and Saint Mary's played eachother and West Port South won. That made them second and Sain Mary's thrid. After that game they announced the winners and I went up to recieve the cup. It was a great tournament. If you are on the West Coast at a primary school you should compete.
Is Recycling Essintal?
This week we had to write an argument . Our topic was if we thought Recycling was essintal. I agreed with this statement . Here is my piece of writting.
Is Recycling Essential?
I firmly believe that recycling is essential. How would you feel if you were one of the people polluting the environment by not reducing, reusing and recycling? Recycling helps the environment by making our waters not so polluted, helping us preserve our resources and keeping us from not littering.
Did you know our Pacific Ocean has a Great big Garbage Patch three times the size of France! They say that this patch has up to 79,000 tons of discarded plastic. Plastic is polluting our environment every day. It causes harm to every living thing on this planet. Big boats such as cargo ships and cruise liners can dump 14 billion pounds of garbage into the ocean. Our sea life are dying because of it. Over 1 million seabirds and 100,000 sea mammals are being killed by this pollution. Recycling will help solve this problem. If you were making your lunch for school would you put your sandwich in a reusable container or wrap it in glad wrap?
Plastic and other materials can harm our environment. If we don’t try and reuse our resources that we use on a day to day basis we are making pollution. On average we only recycle one plastic bag out of 200. Worldwide we use 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags a year. That comes out to over 1 million per minute. Us New Zealanders are already trying to help this problem by banning single use plastic bags. Recycling plastic bags will make a great difference to our pollution. Plastic bags can also fly away or be dropped that can cause littering.
Littering is a piece of rubbish that has been disposed improperly. Littering means leaving rubbish on the ground instead of putting it in trash container or recycling bin. Would you believe that 11.5 billion dollars is spent on cleaning up litter every year. 50 percent of that litter is mostly cigarette butts and 33 percent of the litter is fast food. The average amount of steps before a person litters is only twelve paces. Instead of those twelve paces making litter turn them into twelve paces of recycling. Littering can also affect humans and animals. When the litter is in drains or gutters it can clog the storm water and cause flooding.
As you can see recycling definitely is essential as it helps us and our environment.

Art Soiree.
This week on Friday the 14th of September we are holding our Art Soiree. Our school does this every two years as we do a production the other years. This year is very exciting for me as I am going to be very busy. I am peforming in the Grey Main Kapa Haka group and the Choir. Also my tye dye t shirt will be up for grabs. I have been working on this during the week. There will be lots of other peformences as we have lots of talented students at our school. There will be dancing, singing and much more. At the end of the night before everyone goes we have an auction, where we have a variety of things up for auction. My Photography will be up for grabs aswell. I am entering a few photos and fingers crossed I make a good amount of money for the school. Come along and have some fun.
PrEp.
This week has been super busy. I have been working very hard as I am getting myself ready for PrEp. I applied for two jobs this year, warehouse and banker. I sent my cv and letter to the teachers and I got accepted for both. I choose to do Warehouse. The Warehouse is where everyone gets there equiptment and they write orders that we have to make and deliever to them. It is already very busy. We have been making orders and making sure everyone gets what they need. Next week is where the ventures are able to start making there products. They have two weeks to make as much products as they can. After the first week of work we hold a mini market so they ventures get to try out there product and see on average how much people will buy them. Then the second week evryone has to contribute and we have the big market where Grey Main students and Parents come along and buy some things. We don't use real money either, we make our own. The venture that raises the most amount of money wins and they get awards. PrEp is so much fun and I can't wait for next week.

Rotary Speech.
This term there is the Rotary speeches. Mrs O Sullivan had to choose two people to represent our school. We had to pefrom our speech infront of our synticate. There were four people trialing and one of them was me. The topic was based on a journey. My speech was on the journey of my baby brother. I talked about him and also about the stages in pregnancy and what the baby will be doing. The next day we found out what people made it. I was lucky enough to be one of them. On September the 18th I am going to be representing the school at the union and be competing with all the other schools on the West Coast. Wish me luck.
Tye Dye.
This week we have been busy doing Tie Dye. Next Friday we have an Art Soriee and we have to make a piece of Art work to show. All of Totara are doing Tie Dye. There will be an auction on the tops. The person who bids the most amount of money will get the top. The spiral design was the most common in my class. I choose that design as well. We were allowed the maximum of three colours.I choose Green,Pink and Purple. Stay in tuned to see the finished product.
